Heavy rail refers to the heavier rails and equipment used by regular railroads and commuter trains. Heavy rail commuter transportation is provided in the Seattle area by Sound Transit, which operates rush hour “Sounder” trains between Seattle and Everett, and between Seattle and Tacoma.
